India Trip 2011 - Day Two
Recap:
After spending all night in the airport, I attempt to go find my check in counter and none of them say Guwahati. So I ask several people about where it will be and they say it will be there soon. After a while I realize that I better go just get in a line, cause there are now hundreds of Indians in every line and if I don’t do something I wont make it. Finally realizing that there is a generic line for check in, I am praying the whole time for wisdom and patience and for it all to work out, and once I am three people away from the counter the display screen says Guwahati. What a relief. I start the check in process and the guy says “I am sorry, but we don’t have a ticket for you”, so finally after discussing it with him, the manager comes over and then takes my stuff to another computer and after 10 minutes, gets me a ticket. Amen, Praise God!!! Now that I have a ticket I proceed to the security check in and finally to the gate with 20 minutes to spare. I found a pay phone and had the chance to call home and talk to Amy, which was GREAT, but found out that the Steelers where loosing the superbowl, oh well… At this point I am a little thirsty and hungry, so I find a vending machine and put my money in and nothing comes out… I guess the machine is broken and no one bothered to post it… oh well. Finally boarded plane and traveled to Guwahati. Upon arriving at the airport I see a familiar face, HC Stephens is there to pick me up. How great it is to see a familiar face among the thousands that I had seen for the past few days.
Now we start the journey to the training center, which became a two hour event. There are a lot of people in India. Our driver, Pastor CM, was a good but CRAZY driver (well I guess everyone is crazy, you gotta be or you won’t go anywhere. We were passing cars two wide and with oncoming traffic… I wish you could have seen it, but my camera was in the back. After hours of traffic and windy road we end up at a nice rural training center that is used to train locals on farming and job technology.
Thankfully HC Stephens allowed me to use his cellular usb internet device so I could chat with my wife. After a short nap we ventured out to find some food. And we found….. Fried Rice….. I think will be eating a lot of that this week… good think I like it. Well I might not after this week.
After dinner we arrived back to the training center and a missionary from the States, Steve Overholt arrived and is my roommate. I am thankful to be here and will be ready to get set up for this conference. This is the first time for an all India pastors conference of the International Partners of the Fundamental Baptist Ministries. Most if not all of these pastor have never meet, and will be encouraged in ministry. I look forward to how I can help these great men of God serving Christ in this dry and weary land.
